Join us for the 10th iteration of Redlands Strada Rossa.  Registration will go live at midnight on January 1st, and we hope you will join us.  As usual, the ride is capped at 300 riders and there will be no exceptions to this.  So once we are sold out, we are sold out.

This event is made possible because there are people who care to volunteer their time to put this event on.  It is a not-for-profit ride that helps to fund the Redlands Conservancy and the Inland Empire Biking Alliance.

As per normal, routes will be emailed a week before the event.

Gravelbike California: Redlands and Strada Rossa

Below is a newly produced video that Gravelbike CA just posted. I think it 100% captures the feel of the town and the trails we ride on. Please take a few to check it out and like/comment/subscribe to their great series of videos!

We plan on seeing you on these trails next March if not sooner!!!

One Year In - Update and Thanks!

This coming Saturday is the third Saturday in March, which is when we historically held the Redlands Strada Rossa. Currently San Bernardino County just came out of purple last week, and we're still very much in the red. There is no way we could or would want to put together any sort of formal event. We love you all and thank you for the interest, well wishes, and support you have sent out way over the last year. We hope you and your family are healthy and getting by, and that we can hold a celebratory ride soon!

Right now, the weather is perfect, our hills are green, oranges are being harvested, the dirt is hero-grade, and the roads are nearly empty. We encourage you to come out and ride in Redlands and the east valley this weekend! Consider stopping by our sponsors and thanking them by buying an inner tube or a beer (Your choice, who are we to judge). The Redlands and Crafton Hills Conservancies still receive our support, and want you to come ride your bikes on the trails they maintain!

Below are routes from previous years... ride one of them or put your own ride together. They have not been updated, and show the route as it was, so there may be access issues in 2021 that weren't there in 2014. It's an adventure. Just go ride a bike somewhere this weekend!

2019: https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29060441 (No permission for dam right now)

2021:  You have options!

If you do ride this weekend, take some photos and tag us in them to keep the stoke alive!!!
Seriously, we'd love to see your adventure!

2020 Event Cancellation - Thank You For Supporting RSR!

It pains me to say it, but between the El Dorado Fire in Yucaipa and local rules regarding organized events in public open space, we have no choice but to cancel Strada Rossa.

Your refund will be processed shortly. If you purchased a t-shirt, that order will be refunded too.

We held on as long as we could because we genuinely believe we could have put on a safe ride. We know riding your bike and a little outdoor, socially distant comraderie are good for the soul, and to be completely frank, the non-profits this ride benefits desperately need your financial support.

So what now?
When the smoke clears, come out to Redlands and ride the 'unsanctioned' Strada Rossa 7 course on your own.

If you're able, please consider making a donation to one (or all) of the organizations below. 100% of your entry fee will be put to use improving and maintaining our trail system and teaching folks who rely on a bicycle for transportation how to repair their own rig.

I'd love to say "we'll see you in the Spring", but at this point, who knows.

stay safe and ride on,

New Date: October 24.... Corona Rossa!

Oh, hello there. Yes, it's us... the Redlands Strada Rossa folks. We're peeking our heads out and looking to see if it's clear to go for a bike ride. So far we feel confident holding a no-host ride on 10/24. All registered participants have been sent the details on that, as well as how to ask for a refund. What changes is that there won't be a mass start, or an after party. No ride over the dam. No riding through El Dorado. We still hope to share the day and our trails with you, and celebrate what we do have and the community that has built up around this event. Please reach out if you have questions or concerns.

March 21 RSR Postponed

This was emailed out to all registered participants from our ride director:

In seven years i never thought i'd say this; the ride will not go on.
Our all-volunteer crew took great pains to sketch out a contingency plan and mitigate the impact of drawing nearly 600 people together to share their love of gravel. With each day that passes though, there is more writing on the wall. We have decided to adhere to the Governor's recommendation and help "flatten the curve".
flatten the curve
On behalf of the entire crew, i am genuinely sorry for the inconvenience we know this causes. we don't have an alternate date to share yet, but conceivably we will be sending you through our (much browner) hills in early Summer or in the Fall. If you're frustrated, trust me, I understand. It would have been a lot easier to make this decision if we had been planning on packing you into an auditorium.
If it is at all possible for you to hold onto your ticket until we settle on a date, that would be a godsend. If you need us to issue you a refund now, just reply to this email.
We know you're disappointed. We know that some of you were preparing to fly or drive great distances. We also know that you yourselves are healthy and not particularly vulnerable. I speak as the father of a newborn and the son of someone with stage 4 liver cancer though. Deciding to carry on would have meant possibly asking someone else to pay the price for our fun.
What can you do now? Go out and ride your bike for godsakes. its a safe and sanity preserving activity, especially in times like these. And it beats hoarding toilet paper. ;)

Event Status Update

Thought we would give you all a quick status of the event situation. We are addressing safety and health concerns in regards to the current public health situation as it applies to COVID-19.

At this time (3/13) the event is still happening. There have been a few cancellations which will help to get some folks on the waiting list on the roster.

All that said, anything can happen at a time of great concern. There will be an email this weekend addressing the situation and changes, to all current registered riders.
Meanwhile.,stay safe and see you next Saturday.

PEACE

Community

Redlands Strada Rossa has always been a grass roots event. It is 100% run by people who live and work here in the Redlands area. The holds true for our many sponsors over the years. We are thankful for all they do to make this event happen, and would not be able to hold this event without them!

Please take a moment to consider our community partners and sponsors that donate both product and more importantly time to support us. They are all good people, and deserve your future consideration!!!

BikeBBQ Donations Accepted

The Redlands Strada Rossa is a fundraiser by the non-profit IEBA. One of the components of that organization is the Redlands BikeBBQ. The BikeBBQ is a community bike shop, and 100% volunteer operated. It has a simple goal of getting more people on bikes. It does this by teaching people how to service their bikes, providing tools to work on them, selling used bikes and parts, and organizing community events. Good people run it, and work hard to make it a part of the Redlands bike community and culture.

To do all this, the BikeBBQ needs donations. Cash is of course wonderful, but not everyone is in the place where they can provide that. What many cyclists have are boxes full of old gear. That "Maybe I'll need this some day" sort of stuff in the garage. If you think you'll use those eight speed freewheels, cantilevers, and 26" wheels, by all means keep them. But if you're at the point where you won't be using them in the near future, the BikeBBQ can!

Those of you who are coming out to Redlands, please consider donating used bike gear. Anything from socks to spokes is appreciated. Clothing, tools, shifters, brakes, chains, tires, frames, forks, packs/bags, trailers... you name it, the BBQ can use it. There will be a collection bin at the Redlands Asistencia which is the start and finish of the RSR. Please consider a donation while you are there!

You can see what the BikeBBQ looks like on a Google maps walk through and some photos to browse through: https://www.instagram.com/bikebbq/

Hurry, act now, operators are standing by!

We have sold half of our spots in the first three weeks of opening registration. We will sell out. If you are planning on riding with us, registering sooner rather than later would be VERY wise!

Registration for Redlands Strada Rossa VII

The Redlands Strada Rossa will be held March 21st, 2020. Rain or shine. There are no cancellations/refunds, but you may transfer your registration up through the 19th.

We think you know this already, but just in case, the RSR is a demanding ride. It is not a road ride, in fact only about one third of it will be on the road. The rest is on dirt of bike path. There will be sand, possibly mud, and multiple singletrack segments (With 10% climbing and descending). There are three months to get you and your bike into top condition for the ride. To help with that, local shops and clubs in Redlands will be hosting preview/training rides to prepare for the RSR. Please follow us and them on Facebook or Instagram so that you can 100% ready to enjoy the RSR!

We will be co-hosting the after party with the Redlands Conservancy, which is staging The Emerald Necklace Grant Tour. This event is the perfect compliment to the RSR, and if you have friends or family members that would like to come out and see what Redlands is all about, this is the way to do it!

Their information and registration can be seen at engt2020.eventbrite.com

As always, the RSR is an all-volunteer event. One hundred percent of the funds generated go to support bicycle advocacy and open spaces. We are proud of East Valley and hope you come out and ride some of our trails this March!

Rain!

https://www.wunderground.com/forecast/us/ca/redlands/92373

We were hoping for clear skies, then maybe just a light drizzle. Now it looks like a substantial storm starting the morning of the second. Please be prepared for rain, highs in the 50s, and wind. The trails should hold up fine, but will obviously get you and your bike muddy.

Last Minute Notes

Strada Rossa is just a few days away. We will ride rain or shine. To streamline registration, we will offer an early opportunity to pick up your wristband at Stell Coffee & Teaon Friday 3/1 from 6-8pm.

On Saturday morning the ride will stage from Stell Coffee & Tea in Redlands starting at 6am. If you’re local, please ride to the ride. If you’re coming from further away, you may not park inside the Stell’s shopping center. You must utilize the street for parking instead.

If you have an old bike or parts in the garage, we will be collecting donations for Redlands BikeBBQ.

91 mile ride @ 7:00am – https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29244562

63 mile ride @ 8:00am - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29060441

39 mile ride @ 9:00am - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28851986

You can find a map that shows all three courses and SAG stops (including information about when they open and when they close) here:

The ride finish and afterparty will be held ~1 mile up the hill at 1027 S San Mateo St 92373. For the 60 and 90 milers, your wristband and ID will be required to enter Seven Oaks Dam. Your wristband also entitles you to a meal after the ride and one drink ticket. Please bring cash (or a card) to purchase additional beverages. We will stop serving food at 5pm.

Strada Rossa is not a race. You'll be sharing the road with vehicles and you must yield to trail users on foot and horseback. Do not deviate from the marked trails, even to avoid mud. Dismount from your bike if you encounter any hazards. You are likely to encounter bees as well, so be prepared for a real adventure.

Please extend the utmost courtesy to everyone you see on Saturday and represent the cycling community in a positive light. In the event of an emergency on the course, please dial (909) 257-7702.
