BikeBBQ Donations Accepted

The Redlands Strada Rossa is a fundraiser by the non-profit IEBA. One of the components of that organization is the Redlands BikeBBQ. The BikeBBQ is a community bike shop, and 100% volunteer operated. It has a simple goal of getting more people on bikes. It does this by teaching people how to service their bikes, providing tools to work on them, selling used bikes and parts, and organizing community events. Good people run it, and work hard to make it a part of the Redlands bike community and culture.

To do all this, the BikeBBQ needs donations. Cash is of course wonderful, but not everyone is in the place where they can provide that. What many cyclists have are boxes full of old gear. That "Maybe I'll need this some day" sort of stuff in the garage. If you think you'll use those eight speed freewheels, cantilevers, and 26" wheels, by all means keep them. But if you're at the point where you won't be using them in the near future, the BikeBBQ can!

Those of you who are coming out to Redlands, please consider donating used bike gear. Anything from socks to spokes is appreciated. Clothing, tools, shifters, brakes, chains, tires, frames, forks, packs/bags, trailers... you name it, the BBQ can use it. There will be a collection bin at the Redlands Asistencia which is the start and finish of the RSR. Please consider a donation while you are there!

You can see what the BikeBBQ looks like on a Google maps walk through and some photos to browse through: https://www.instagram.com/bikebbq/

Registration for Redlands Strada Rossa VII

The Redlands Strada Rossa will be held March 21st, 2020. Rain or shine. There are no cancellations/refunds, but you may transfer your registration up through the 19th.

We think you know this already, but just in case, the RSR is a demanding ride. It is not a road ride, in fact only about one third of it will be on the road. The rest is on dirt of bike path. There will be sand, possibly mud, and multiple singletrack segments (With 10% climbing and descending). There are three months to get you and your bike into top condition for the ride. To help with that, local shops and clubs in Redlands will be hosting preview/training rides to prepare for the RSR. Please follow us and them on Facebook or Instagram so that you can 100% ready to enjoy the RSR!

We will be co-hosting the after party with the Redlands Conservancy, which is staging The Emerald Necklace Grant Tour. This event is the perfect compliment to the RSR, and if you have friends or family members that would like to come out and see what Redlands is all about, this is the way to do it!

Their information and registration can be seen at engt2020.eventbrite.com

As always, the RSR is an all-volunteer event. One hundred percent of the funds generated go to support bicycle advocacy and open spaces. We are proud of East Valley and hope you come out and ride some of our trails this March!

Rain!

https://www.wunderground.com/forecast/us/ca/redlands/92373

We were hoping for clear skies, then maybe just a light drizzle. Now it looks like a substantial storm starting the morning of the second. Please be prepared for rain, highs in the 50s, and wind. The trails should hold up fine, but will obviously get you and your bike muddy.

Last Minute Notes

Strada Rossa is just a few days away. We will ride rain or shine. To streamline registration, we will offer an early opportunity to pick up your wristband at Stell Coffee & Teaon Friday 3/1 from 6-8pm.

On Saturday morning the ride will stage from Stell Coffee & Tea in Redlands starting at 6am. If you’re local, please ride to the ride. If you’re coming from further away, you may not park inside the Stell’s shopping center. You must utilize the street for parking instead.

If you have an old bike or parts in the garage, we will be collecting donations for Redlands BikeBBQ.

91 mile ride @ 7:00am – https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29244562

63 mile ride @ 8:00am - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/29060441

39 mile ride @ 9:00am - https://ridewithgps.com/routes/28851986

You can find a map that shows all three courses and SAG stops (including information about when they open and when they close) here:

The ride finish and afterparty will be held ~1 mile up the hill at 1027 S San Mateo St 92373. For the 60 and 90 milers, your wristband and ID will be required to enter Seven Oaks Dam. Your wristband also entitles you to a meal after the ride and one drink ticket. Please bring cash (or a card) to purchase additional beverages. We will stop serving food at 5pm.

Strada Rossa is not a race. You'll be sharing the road with vehicles and you must yield to trail users on foot and horseback. Do not deviate from the marked trails, even to avoid mud. Dismount from your bike if you encounter any hazards. You are likely to encounter bees as well, so be prepared for a real adventure.

Please extend the utmost courtesy to everyone you see on Saturday and represent the cycling community in a positive light. In the event of an emergency on the course, please dial (909) 257-7702.
